Banks can do much more than just hold your deposit or give you a loan. For folks who are looking for additional services beyond CDs or second mortgages, many financial institutions also have “wealth management” departments. Performing services such as estate planning, investment management, and trust services, banks like City National go beyond the basics to develop deep and lasting relationships with clients who need additional advice and care.

Wealth management can be a key consideration when joining a bank these days; after all, it is easy enough to find an Internet bank that will give you a high yield CD (relatively speaking) or a slick mobile banking app for your SmartPhone. It takes considerably more effort and research to locate a bank that you can trust with your wealth. It’s a search to be taken seriously, of course, and many if not most customers look to local or regional banks to manage wealth.

City National has an outstanding website for explanation of wealth management services, so I refer to them here. Based out of Southern California (and not to be confused with near-failed National City Bank, which is now merged with PNC), City National’s website details its private client resources. These include comprehensive estate planning, including tax and insurance management, as well as brokerage services, retirement planning, fixed income portfolios, and even charitable /private foundations set-up and management.

I wanted BankShout readers to see what types of wealth management options are available, so City National caught my eye as I researched private client services on the web. If nothing else, the bank’s web info will help to demystify the sometimes complex processes associated with wealth management, and with retirement in particular.
